Right. Right. Trying to get my head round this. I think it was January this year that the electrian from downstairs tried to cheat money off me... 180 yuan. Basically there weren't even supposed to be any problems in the first place... but fixing it should have been free of charge. I just didn't know the rules but instinctively mentioned that I was going to tell the landlord about all of it. He tried to keep the money but then made a strange phone call and some pecualiar excuses and returned the money, knowing that I would certainly tell the landlord and he'd be in trouble. All that was too bewildering for me and I wrote an email of 2 pages giving a full account of all the made-up excuses, still trying to work out what was going on after electricity came back on... I did tell the landlord who then reported the cheating attempt and the dude got fired. Peace on site, never saw him again. I was so upset that after a tiring and hardworking day someone wanted to cheat me. And he wore the electrian's uniform, working on site.
These days I seem to be facing new (old) problems. It is distressing to be a woman in Britain, when I walk around in some place like London on my own even in broad daylight, due to the high number of dirty-minded men that lurk around. Their motivations are often obvious in the first sentence that they utter, if not, in the sentences that they manage to utter within the first 20 seconds of hassling me- and all of that is extremely boring as well as distasteful. I have tried pretending that I don't understand a word of English, but that didn't work- presumably, well, lust insisted that I must respond and reciprocate (heaven forbid!!!!!!!!!!) I need to buy some tear-gas, buy a personal alarm, and that flashlight thing that the self defence instructor told me about years ago- and be prepared to scream, be prepared to call up some non-emergency police number as well as bearing in mind the possibility of calling an emergency number, I wonder if it would be useful to get myself a wedding ring or any ring that looks like a wedding ring- since pretending that I understand no English doesn't seem to work, I can say 'I am going home to my husband now' that might be more effective?? Saying that I have a boyfriend is not effective either. Uuuuuugggggh I HATE IT. At least no one ever tried to bother me in the street in the land of red capitalism?!?! When they approach me in the street they are actually just after transport directions!!!!!!!! Here it's like... someone asks me about learning English and becoming fluent in it, I just half -assume they're just after one thing, someone asks me for the time, he's just looking for an excuse to strike up some inital contact, someone tried to chat me up at the SAINSBURYS SUPERMARKET pretending that he wanted to come to my university to do a postgraduate course... when I was dashing around buying a SANDWICH. I thought my uni email address was public information anyway so unfortunately I released it, and since then he harrassed me... while being totally unable to say anything other than 'this is my number, call me' 'merry Christmas' 'Happy New Year' 'let's have a date' 'call me' he was just dirty-minded, I could tell at the SUPERMARKET

uuuuugggggghhh if they cannot speak/ talk about anything they might as well tape up their... mouths??

oh! Cool! I'm 24, and in recent years I have found it a hassle to sort out plans for my birthdays, which is sad and unfortunate. I do have fantastic friends, but somehow I seem to be more up for a quiet family birthday- but then the concept of my family unit is just quite irrelevant to me. Yeah, all throughout university, my birthday was always in the middle of exams, which is okay - for instance on my 22nd we went out for an evening meal in a bunch of 6 after my theories of art exam. I think once I'm lucky enough to set up my own family unit years later, then I can do my quiet family things, and if geographically favourable then I'll by all means get my friends together and have a party - my favourite games being the balloon debate, the mafia game... why are my favourite games so negative, balloon debate and the champion (speaking for anything: the child, the royal navy, unhappiness, etc) is the only one that stays alive, and the mafia game is to do with talking yourself out of execution. I'm sure I can modify the balloon debate to ... remove the large number of deaths
